BBQ ROSTER

HISTORY OF OUR WEEKLY BBQ

The weekly BBQ at SVAC has been happening for many years.

The aroma of the cooking sausages and onions wafting across the grounds is delightful.

We have been mindful of keeping our prices down to extremely reasonable prices since we began.

Even with our low prices, the canteen is extremely profitable for the club.

After the first year of having the weekly BBQ, we had made enough profit to purchase a new fridge.

For those who weren't at the club at that time, the old fridge had been kindly donated years before and was on its last legs. Drinks at the back got frozen, drinks at the front stayed warm, so the day was spent rotating the stock around in the fridge so everyone could have a cold drink to enjoy.

This is  why SVAC works so well as a club.

We give of our time (to cook the BBQ or to do a working bee) and every member benefits from it.

This is why it is important that EVERYBODY pitches in and does their bit.

If you haven't cooked a BBQ for over a year or more (or ever), please step up and do the right thing.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

Each Saturday we ask a member to volunteer to cook the bbq

By taking it in turns the workload is spread amongst the membership fairly

Please look for any vacancy on the BBQ roster where you may be able to take your turn

The BBQ Roster is kept on a clipboard on the canteen counter

WHAT TO BUY
Usual purchases for the Saturday BBQ:

  • sausages

  • chicken sticks

  • Bag of large brown onions

  • 2 litre milk

  • Bread or buns (depending on what you're cooking)

You might like to do something else (bacon/egg sandwiches, hot dogs/ etc) but we still need the milk

HOW TO GET THE MONEY

The week before your turn, get your money and the BBQ bag from the canteen

If there is a QRE or a special shoot on the day, ask for more money so you can purchase more food for the increased number of people expected at the club

WHAT TIME TO START

We try to have the BBQ mostly finished by 11am so that people in the training class can enjoy something as they finish their class for the day, and so members can have some lunch before they head out to practice and before the afternoon shoot.

For this, we ask that you consider getting to the club and start cooking around 9.30ish.

HOW TO GET REIMBURSED

Please bring in the receipts and change from the money to the canteen, and please return the BBQ bag

If you have spent over the amount provided on the bbq items, please bring in the receipts and the canteen will reimburse you

HOW WE SAY THANK YOU

As a Thank You for volunteering to do the bbq, the club offers you:

  • 1 x Free Line Fee

  • 1 x Free Sausage/chicken stick (or the food cooked on the day)

  • 1 x Free Soft Drink

And after the shoot

  • 1 x Soft Drink (or 1 x Alcoholic Drink if you are an adult)

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT

If, for any reason, you are unable to do the bbq please contact the club  as early as possible so other arrangements can be made for the bbq on the day
